Mesh – Exile – Group Gift

I am happy to pay someone for their creative work in SL, but it’s also nice to get something for free sometimes. :)

This is a new hair from Exile, simply called Group Gift. It’s free if you’re a member of Exile’s subscribo group. If you’re not a member yet, you can still join and grab the gift!

The group gift is MESH, so you will need a current viewer to see it. The texturing on this is wonderful. From what I’ve been able to see so far, a lot of texture placement has to be done outside of SL while you’re building the mesh. It’s great to see such detail put into this hair.

Exile’s Group Gift hair comes in two colors. Shown is the brown with purple highlights. There’s also a blonde with blue highlights. The highlights are mild enough not to be overbearing. It includes an alpha layer to hide any bald spots that may show up on your head.

If you’re still curious about mesh, this is a great hair to try out. :)

Today’s style is from UncleWeb.

The Free-Hair! Men’s style is a great must have for newbie and oldbie alike. The back is layered with strands on hair falling just past the neckline. The hair in front is parted on the left with layered strands framing the face. There is some volume at the crown with layers showing at the sides. I chose to show a free style this morning because when I am in male mode this is my go-to hair and let’s not forget that is looks good on female avatars too.

The Free-Hair! Men’s style is free. The colors include: blonde, cool brown, mesh black.

Today’s style comes from Gurl 6. This is Six Kennedy’s holiday special freebie.

The Jinglebelle style is a long, flowing style that falls to the middle of the back with a slight wave. The hair in front is parted on the right with strands falling across the left eye below the cheekbone. The entire style has soft layers throughout. The style is topped with a warm, winter hat that is tintable to match your outfit. This is a beautiful style that is a generous offering from Gurl 6.

Today’s style is from Curio. This style is also available as a freebie at the Hair Fair until April 14.

The Short style is a short, straight bob that falls a breath past the neckline. The hair is parted on the right and the hair in front falls down to touch the jawline. This is a beautiful and simple style is perfect for both casual and formal occasions.

The Short style is an exclusive freebie at the hair fair until the shop’s new sim opens. The colors include: ash blonde, black, blonde, bright red, brown, magenta, natural red, strawberry blonde, white.

Tickled Pink offers a newbie special hair at L$1. This shop offers clothing, glasses, shoes and more. Be sure to see the Kitty Cat Mary Janes. Hot Damn!

The Minx style is two unusual ponytails that stick out just a bit above the ears. The face is frame with long, wispy bangs. Each ponytail is alive. No, really. They are each made up of several chunks that individually have a life of their own and do not stop moving. Ever. I said in a earlier post that the newbie specials and discounted hair is what I look at to see if I want to buy the more expensive styles. This style would send me running in the other direction.

The Minx style is a newbie hair special(almost freebie) and costs L$1. The colors included are: apricot, auburn, autumn, black, black cherry, black berry, bold red, chestnut, electric blue, espresso, golden brown, grapefruit, lilac ice, mahogany, midnight blue, mystic white, pink, platinum blonde, strawberry blonde, violet.

The Fat Tuesday Wish List for all Hair Designers.

Maybe it is something about the florist screwing up my Valentine’s Day by not delivering my damn roses and then trying to charge the hubby for them or maybe it is having to pay for a $1000 car repair but it got me in a pissy mood. The pissy mood got me sounding off with Laynie Link about little pet peeves that I have had since starting this blog. I came up with a list of things I wish that all designers did. This is not to say that all designers do these things and, in fact, I don’t think this list applies to all shops either but call it my Fat Tuesday Wish List for Hair Designers.

1. Have demos for all styles in the shop. There is nothing more annoying them seeing a style you like, having no idea how it will look on you, and there is no demo to try.

2. Put an identifier in hair demos. People do not always have the money at the time they try on the demo and want to come back to that style when they can afford it. If the demo is only called “braids” then the potential buyer has no clue what shop that demo came from. Good idea would be to include a landmark in the demo box. I cannot tell you how many styles at the Hair Affair had no landmarks in them.

3. Please put your shop in your profile picks. If you have no identifier with your demo and the buyer has to search for the creator’s name it would be nice if the shop was listed in the picks for a quick teleport.

4. Put landmarks in all things: demos, hair, freebies, specials, everything.

5. Any “catches” or “special conditions” need to be revealed in a notecard with the demo like “this style really has fans attached to it but the demo doesn’t show that”, “you need to resize your head if you cannot adjust hair properly”, or “you will quack like a duck if you wear the yellow texture”.

6. If you say you have a freebie, then it should cost L$0 aka free. If it costs L$1 then this is no longer free and should be called something else like dollarbie.

7. And most important, for God’s sake, if you make a dollarbie or freebie hairstyle make sure that the quality reflects what you sell in your shop. This is how newbies will be judging if they are going to be repeat customers when they have real money so do not blow this opportunity to make a first impression.

From here on all L$1 styles will be called dollarbies. :)

Taunt – Salsa

Hair by Taunt is still running the special where you go off an a treasure hunt and win free hair. There are five hair styles in total. To begin the treasure hunt simply click the treasure map on their wall and pay L$1. The Salsa style is one of the styles you can win in copper.

The Salsa style is a long, straight style that falls down to top the top of the thighs. The strands are in large, razor cut chunks with many pieces sticking out at the back. The face is frame with similarly choppy bangs. The flexi moves a bit odd when walking. This style seems unnatural with the hair scooping up the the sky after curving halfway down the shaft. The texture has nice highlights that catches the light nicely.

The Salsa hair runs L$199 per color, L$1 for the demo and $999 for all 63 colors in a Willow pack.
